Install the Arduino IDE

We use the Arduino IDE for the Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

This is a lightweight software that is easily installed on Mac, Windows, and Linux computers.

Our Recommendation

We recommend using the Arduino IDE when possible, as it provides a more realistic engineering experience and more tools for debugging and creating libraries.

If you’re unable to install the Arduino IDE, then you can complete the course using the Learn Robotics IDE, built into the Learn Robotics LMS.

If your school uses Chromebooks, you can enable the Linux Beta and set up a local copy of the Arduino IDE. Instructions for this installation can be found here.

You will need admin rights to install the Offline Editor (Arduino IDE) on most computers.

The Arduino IDE can be downloaded and installed from here.

Alternative: Create a Portable IDE on a USB stick

For users using computers running Linux and Windows without admin permissions, you may create a portable version of the Arduino IDE that can run on a flash drive.

Follow the setup instructions here.
